INSTRUMENTAL
MUSIC PROGRAM
Strings, Brass, Woodwind and Percussion
lessons are offered at Hervey Bay High School. Two instrumental
music teachers provide these lessons - one teacher for strings
(violin, viola, cello, double bass), the other teacher for
woodwind, brass and percussion (flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone,
bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, timpani, drums).
Thirty-five
minute lessons are given in groups and are held once a week
during school hours. Our school also boasts a String Ensemble
and a Concert Band. Both these groups rehearse once a week.
At present the String Ensemble rehearse before school on Thursdays,
and the Concert Band rehearses before school on Tuesdays.
Public
functions that our instrumental music students perform in
include: Fanfare, the Maryborough Eisteddfod, Yagubi Folk
Festival, Education Week and the yearly school musical.
Chamber
Music is also actively encouraged at Hervey Bay High with
the formation of duos, trios and string quartets.
The
HBSHS Concert Band is growing at a steady pace. The group has participated in a number of public
performances such as Anzac Day Parades and the Jazz up the Mall event in Brisbane.
